Netflix to Release Documentary on Legendary Musician Alison Moyet
Netflix has announced the upcoming release of a documentary chronicling the life and career of celebrated British singer Alison Moyet. Best known as one half of the influential 1980s synth-pop duo Yazoo and for her powerful solo performances, Moyet’s unique contralto voice and genre-spanning discography have made her a standout figure in contemporary music for over four decades.
The documentary, which is set to premiere later this year, promises an intimate look at Moyet’s journey from her Essex roots to international fame. Viewers can expect never-before-seen archival footage, behind-the-scenes studio moments, and candid interviews with Moyet herself, as well as commentary from collaborators, music critics, and fellow artists influenced by her work.
Netflix describes the project as “a celebration of an extraordinary voice and a resilient spirit,” highlighting Moyet’s evolution from synth-pop stardom in the early 1980s with hits like Only You and Don’t Go, to a solo career that embraced blues, jazz, electronic, and orchestral styles. The film also touches on her personal struggles, including battles with stage fright and industry expectations, painting a full picture of the artist behind the music.
The announcement has generated excitement among long-time fans and newer listeners alike, as Moyet remains a respected and influential figure in the music world. With Netflix’s track record for high-quality music documentaries—such as those on Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and WHAM!—this latest entry is poised to offer a compelling tribute to an artist whose voice has left an indelible mark on popular music.
A premiere date and trailer are expected in the coming weeks.
