The San Francisco 49ers have bolstered their coaching staff by bringing in former Seattle Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright, who proved to be a formidable opponent for them over the years. Wright, who spent a decade with the Seahawks, announced on social media Monday that he’s joining the Niners as their new assistant linebacker coach at the age of 34. This move marks a significant shift within the NFC West rivalry, as Wright transitions from being a thorn in the side of the 49ers’ defense to now contributing his expertise to their coaching staff.
In addition to his role as assistant linebacker coach, K.J. Wright will also take on responsibilities as a defensive quality control coach for the San Francisco 49ers. This dual role highlights the team’s commitment to maximizing Wright’s wealth of experience and knowledge gained during his illustrious career with the Seattle Seahawks. As a defensive quality control coach, Wright will play a pivotal role in analyzing game film, scouting opponents, and assisting in the development and implementation of defensive strategies. His multifaceted contributions are poised to make a significant impact on the 49ers’ defensive prowess and overall performance on the field.
“I am thoroughly excited. I am really, really happy for this opportunity. I’m really happy for the Niners organization believing in me. Trusting me with their franchise. Competing against those guys since Day 1. My first ever NFL game was against the 49ers. Here I am, 13, 14 years down the road, about to be coaching for him. To Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch, the Faithful, I’m excited and ready to roll. It’s going to be really, really fun.”
During the playoffs, Wright broke down a play involving Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw:
Wright was one of the best linebackers to play in the NFL during the Legion of Boom days. Now, he gets to coach the best linebacking duo, and pass on some of his knowledge to the younger players on the roster.
