49ers’ Steve Young compares Brock Purdy to Luke Skywalker: ‘He has the Force’

Ex-49ers quarterback Steve Young, known for his pop culture references in assessing today’s NFL quarterbacks, drew parallels between current 49ers QB Brock Purdy and a mix of Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones in his recent Superman QBs list. Apparently Brock Purdy is Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones rolled up into one.

“I’ve said many times, Brock has the Force. And if you love the Star Wars, you know what I’m talking about. Like Luke Skywalker, there’s something he has that you can’t explain,” Young told ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on his podcast. “What it is in football terms is the ability to get a football play, have studied it, memorized it, every aspect of it … and then run that play and literally get the most out of it.”

Young added that Purdy, akin to Indiana Jones, swiftly decodes NFL defenses, taking only two-and-a-half seconds to connect with the ideal 49ers playmaker consistently. The Hall of Fame quarterback commended Purdy as an “efficiency aficionado” for his adept performance at the quarterback position.

Steve Young, a three-time Super Bowl champion, is well-versed in exemplary quarterbacking for the 49ers. He served as the backup to the legendary “efficiency aficionado” Joe Montana during two of those championship victories before securing his own Super Bowl triumph in 1994.

As the 49ers gear up for the NFC Championship clash with the Detroit Lions, the spotlight turns to Brock “Indiana Skywalker” Purdy. All eyes are on him to potentially join the exclusive club of quarterbacks, including Young and Montana, who’ve brought championships to San Francisco.
