Roczen on hid Suzuki’s Electric Start: A Work in Progress for 2025
Ken Roczen has been a standout rider for H.E.P. Motorsports Suzuki, proving that the RM-Z450 remains competitive despite lacking some modern features. One of the biggest challenges Roczen faces is the absence of an electric start on his bike—something most of his competitors take for granted. However, Suzuki appears to be addressing this issue, with rumors suggesting an electric start could be part of their 2025 plans.
In a recent interview, Roczen acknowledged the difficulty of racing without an electric start, especially in high-pressure moments like crashes or stalled engines. Kickstarting a bike during a race costs precious seconds, sometimes making the difference between a podium finish and a mid-pack result. While Roczen has adapted to the old-school method, he admits that having an electric start would be a game-changer.
Suzuki has been slow to update its motocross lineup, sticking to a platform that has remained largely unchanged for years. The RM-Z450 is still known for its excellent cornering ability and balanced chassis, but it lacks innovations like a hydraulic clutch, variable power modes, and, of course, an electric start. Meanwhile, brands like KTM, Honda, and Yamaha continue to evolve with cutting-edge technology, making Suzuki’s lack of updates more noticeable.
For 2025, sources close to Suzuki suggest the brand is working on an electric start for the RM-Z450, possibly in conjunction with other performance improvements. Roczen has reportedly been involved in testing and development, offering feedback on what the bike needs to stay competitive. While no official announcement has been made, the addition of an electric start would be a huge step forward for Suzuki, helping them keep pace with the rapidly advancing field.
As Roczen continues to push the limits of the RM-Z450, fans eagerly await confirmation of Suzuki’s next move. If the electric start does arrive in 2025, it could be the upgrade that finally modernizes the RM-Z platform and keeps Suzuki in the hunt for championships.
