Netflix Sets to Release Documentary on Iconic Music Band, The Bangles
Netflix is preparing to unveil a brand-new music documentary that will spotlight one of the most iconic female bands of the 1980s: The Bangles. Known for their timeless hits like “Manic Monday,” “Eternal Flame,” and “Walk Like an Egyptian,” The Bangles played a pivotal role in shaping pop-rock music with their signature harmonies, catchy hooks, and unapologetically female perspective during a male-dominated era of rock.
The upcoming documentary, which is currently in post-production, promises to offer fans and music enthusiasts an intimate look at the band’s journey from the early club scene in Los Angeles to becoming global chart-toppers. Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, in-depth interviews with all the original members—Susanna Hoffs, Vicki Peterson, Debbi Peterson, and Michael Steele—as well as commentary from producers, music critics, and contemporaries, the film aims to both celebrate and reassess The Bangles’ place in music history.
Netflix has yet to announce the official title and release date of the documentary, but early reports suggest that it will debut in the second half of 2025. The streaming giant has been ramping up its slate of music-related content, with recent successes such as the Beckham docuseries and documentaries on icons like Taylor Swift and Kanye West. This upcoming project aligns with Netflix’s growing commitment to preserving and amplifying the stories of legendary artists and their cultural impact.
The Bangles, formed in 1981, gained critical acclaim not only for their commercial success but also for their musicianship and refusal to be pigeonholed as just a “girl band.” Their blend of jangle pop, folk-rock, and garage influences set them apart from many of their contemporaries. After disbanding in the late ’80s and reuniting in the late ’90s, the band has continued to perform and record together sporadically over the years.
For both longtime fans and new audiences, the documentary will be a rare opportunity to revisit the vibrant energy, challenges, and achievements of a band that left an indelible mark on the music landscape.
More details are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
