Netflix Announces Biopic Featuring Siouxsie Sioux and Robert Smith
Netflix is reportedly in the early stages of developing a biographical film centered on two of the most iconic figures of post-punk and gothic rock: Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Robert Smith of The Cure. While the two legends hail from different bands, their musical journeys have frequently intersected over the years, making this joint narrative a compelling choice for fans of alternative music.
Siouxsie Sioux emerged in the late 1970s as a trailblazing figure in the UK punk scene before evolving into a defining voice of gothic and post-punk music. Her band, Siouxsie and the Banshees, achieved critical and commercial success with albums such as Juju and Kaleidoscope, known for their dark atmospheres and innovative soundscapes. Robert Smith, frontman and principal songwriter of The Cure, followed a similar trajectory. His emotionally resonant lyrics and distinctive style helped shape the sound of the 1980s and beyond, producing timeless albums like Disintegration and Pornography.
The upcoming film will reportedly delve into the personal and professional evolution of both artists, tracing their roots in the British underground scene and their lasting influence on generations of musicians. While both bands maintained their own unique identities, Smith notably played guitar for Siouxsie and the Banshees during their 1983 tour, marking a brief but memorable collaboration.
Casting details and a release date have yet to be announced, but the project is already generating buzz across music and streaming communities. With Netflix’s growing reputation for producing high-quality music documentaries and biopics—from The Dirt to Maestro—this latest venture is expected to bring a stylized and deeply human portrait of two enduring icons.
For fans of 1980s alternative rock, the film promises not only nostalgia but also a deeper insight into the creative forces behind some of the most influential music of the late 20th century.
