Netflix Set to Release Documentary on Legendary Band The Cure
Netflix has announced the upcoming release of a new documentary focusing on the iconic British rock band, The Cure. The streaming giant is set to deliver an in-depth exploration of the band’s four-decade-long career, promising fans a definitive look at one of the most influential acts in alternative music history.
Titled The Cure: A Disintegration of Time (working title), the documentary will reportedly trace the band’s evolution from their formation in Crawley, West Sussex, in the late 1970s, through their groundbreaking work in the post-punk and gothic rock scenes, and into their continued relevance in contemporary music. The film is expected to feature never-before-seen archival footage, behind-the-scenes content, and exclusive interviews with frontman Robert Smith and other key members, past and present.
Directed by longtime collaborator Tim Pope, who is known for directing many of The Cure’s most memorable music videos, the documentary is said to reflect the band’s visual aesthetic as much as its sonic legacy. Pope previously hinted at a Cure documentary project in the works, and Netflix’s involvement now ensures it will reach a global audience.
Fans can anticipate coverage of major milestones such as the release of Pornography (1982), Disintegration (1989), and the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. There will also be insights into the band’s creative process and the personal stories behind their emotionally resonant catalog.
The release date has not yet been confirmed, but Netflix has indicated that the documentary will premiere sometime in late 2025. It will join a growing list of music-focused content on the platform, aligning with Netflix’s broader strategy to showcase compelling stories from the world of music and culture.
For longtime fans and newcomers alike, The Cure: A Disintegration of Time promises to be an essential portrait of a band that continues to define the sound and spirit of melancholy and innovation in rock music.
