Jason John Bonham (born July 15, 1966) is an English drummer and the son of legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. Following his father’s untimely death in September 1980, Jason has carried on his musical legacy by performing alongside the surviving members of Led Zeppelin on several historic occasions, most notably at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at London’s O2 Arena in December 2007. In addition to these high-profile reunions, Jason has built a solid career as a session musician, fronted the hard rock band Bonham during the late 1980s and early 1990s, and joined forces with other rock greats in Black Country Communion and Sammy Hagar and the Circle, establishing himself as a respected figure in the rock world in his own right.
Jason’s most notable performances with the surviving members of Led Zeppelin include the celebrated Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at London’s O2 Arena in December 2007. The show marked a rare and historic reunion, with Jason taking on the monumental task of filling his father’s role—an emotional and electrifying moment for both the band and their fans worldwide. His powerful and respectful drumming earned praise from critics and longtime Zeppelin fans alike.
Beyond these iconic appearances, Jason Bonham has carved out a successful career of his own. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he led his own hard rock group, Bonham, which gained traction with hits like “Wait for You.” The band showcased Jason’s songwriting abilities and proved he could hold his own outside of his father’s shadow.
Over the years, Jason has worked as a session drummer and collaborated with some of rock’s biggest names. He became a key member of Black Country Communion, a supergroup featuring Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, and Derek Sherinian, known for their bluesy hard rock sound. He also joined forces with Sammy Hagar in the band The Circle, further cementing his reputation as a dynamic and versatile musician.
Jason Bonham’s dedication to preserving his father’s legacy, combined with his own accomplishments, has solidified his place in rock history—not just as the son of a legend, but as a distinguished artist in his own right.
