49ers make final roster decision on their $6.75 million player

The San Francisco 49ers, fresh off a closely contested Super Bowl defeat, are gearing up for a strong comeback in the upcoming season. Currently, they’re fine-tuning their roster, beginning with the release of defensive back Isaiah Oliver, as announced on the team’s official website. This move signals the start of their strategic adjustments as they aim to fortify their squad for the challenges ahead on the gridiron.

Drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Oliver embarked on his professional journey with the Atlanta Falcons, remaining a stalwart member of the team until the previous year when he inked a deal with the San Francisco 49ers. During the 2023-24 NFL season, the 27-year-old cornerback showcased his prowess in 17 games, registering an impressive tally of 67 tackles, consisting of 48 solo tackles and 19 assisted tackles. Additionally, he exhibited his versatility by defending two passes and securing one interception.

However, during the postseason, Isaiah Oliver didn’t play a single down. He did, however, take part in 35 special teams snaps. The cornerback just finished the first season of a two-year $6,750,000 deal with the 49ers before getting cut.

As for the 49ers, the current offseason shines a positive light on the team’s core lineup. Presently, San Francisco’s free agents do not consist of any high-priority players, meaning that the team will have another shot at next season with pretty much the same big names.

The San Francisco 49ers may need to address the offensive line in the upcoming season to provide better protection for quarterback Brock Purdy. Their offensive line struggled in pass protection, ranking 26th in the league last season. Enhancing the depth and talent in the cornerback rotation could also be beneficial for the team’s success in the 2024 campaign.
