Steelers Just Made One important Addition To Their Team

The Pittsburgh Steelers have appointed Anthony Midget as their new assistant secondary coach, adding nine years of valuable NFL experience to their coaching staff. Midget arrives from a successful stint as the secondary coach with the Tennessee Titans, where he played a pivotal role in their defensive achievements.

During his tenure with the Titans, Midget oversaw a secondary unit that excelled in crucial situations, as evidenced by their impressive third-down percentage defense, which ranked third in the league in 2022, allowing opponents to convert only 34.2 percent of their attempts. Additionally, the Titans’ knack for creating turnovers was evident, with the defense tallying 16 interceptions in 2021, tying for 10th in the NFL, and an impressive 15 interceptions in Midget’s first season with the team in 2020, contributing to their seventh-place ranking in the league.

Before his time with the Titans, Midget honed his coaching skills during a six-year tenure with the Houston Texans, where he played a crucial role in the team’s defensive success. Notably, in 2018, Midget’s defensive backfield played a pivotal role in the Texans’ second consecutive AFC South title, showcasing their ability to perform despite roster changes. Furthermore, the Texans’ defense under Midget’s guidance boasted impressive statistics, including allowing only 19.8 points per game in 2018 and leading the league in points allowed per game during a stretch in the same season.

Midget’s coaching journey began in the college ranks, where he held various coaching positions, including safeties coach at Penn State and defensive coordinator at Georgia State. His impact on collegiate defenses was evident, with notable achievements such as Penn State’s strong pass defense efficiency and Georgia State’s defensive successes during his tenure.

As a former standout cornerback at Virginia Tech and a fifth-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons, Midget brings a wealth of playing experience to his coaching role, further enhancing his ability to mentor and develop defensive backs at the professional level.

In summary, the Steelers’ acquisition of Anthony Midget as assistant secondary coach signifies a strategic move to bolster their defensive coaching staff with a seasoned NFL veteran, whose track record of success and expertise will undoubtedly benefit the team’s secondary unit.
