44TH WAS THE WORST RESULT OF TADEJ POGACAR AT THE 2024 TOUR DE FRANCE – WHICH RIDERS WERE THE CLOSEST TO HIM
Tadej Pogačar’s 44th place finish at the 2024 Tour de France, during Stage 5 from Pau to Laruns, stands out as a significant moment given his usual high performance. This stage, characterized by its challenging climbs, including the Col du Soudet and Col de Marie-Blanque, tested the riders’ endurance and strategy.
Close to Pogačar in the standings for this stage were several notable riders. Julian Alaphilippe of Soudal-Quick Step finished just ahead of Pogačar in 43rd place. Alaphilippe, known for his aggressive racing style and expertise in such terrains, managed to stay slightly ahead, showcasing his resilience and tactical acumen.
Behind Pogačar, in 45th place, was Jack Haig of Bahrain Victorious. Haig, an Australian rider with a reputation for his climbing skills and consistency, remained close to Pogačar, demonstrating his capability to stay competitive among the elite riders.
Further down the rankings, in 46th place, was Pogačar’s teammate Marc Hirschi. Hirschi, riding for UAE Team Emirates, played a crucial support role for Pogačar throughout the race. His proximity in the standings highlights the team dynamics and the importance of having strong support riders.
This stage proved to be a strategic battle, with riders like Alaphilippe and Haig managing to navigate the tough climbs effectively, while Pogačar, though finishing lower than usual, demonstrated his tenacity. The results also underline the depth of talent and competition in the Tour de France, where even the smallest gaps can be significant. Despite the setback, Pogačar’s overall performance in the race remained strong, cementing his status as one of the top contenders in modern cycling.
