In an emotional moment during the 2024 Tre Valli Varesine Slovenian cyclist  Tadej Pogačar explained the reasons behind his decision to stop mid-race. Pogačar, who was seen visibly distressed and wiping tears from his eyes, later revealed in an interview that he was forced to abandon the race due to severe physical and mental exhaustion.

“It was a tough call, but I felt like my body just couldn’t handle it anymore. I really wanted to keep going, but I had to listen to what my body was telling me,” said Pogačar. The exhaustion, both physical and emotional, built up from an intense season that included major races like the  Tour de France and other high-profile competitions.

Pogačar, a key figure in the world of cycling, admitted that the pressure to consistently perform at the highest level had taken its toll on him. The rainy, tough conditions during the Tre Valli Varesine, combined with his physical state, made it impossible for him to continue. “There were tears in my eyes. It’s not easy to quit, but sometimes you have to prioritize your health. My team understood, and I’m thankful for their support.”

His withdrawal was met with understanding from fans and competitors alike, with many acknowledging the toll that a long season can take on even the strongest athletes. Despite this setback, Pogačar expressed his desire to come back stronger and focus on recovery for the upcoming races.
