Tom Brady Admits He Underestimated Brock Purdy’s Talents In Stark NFL On Fox Comments

Tom Brady, widely regarded as the greatest quarterback in NFL history, retired with an unprecedented seven Super Bowl titles, including one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the age of 43 in 2021. In that championship game, Brady’s Buccaneers dominated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9, led by MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Brady earned his fifth Super Bowl MVP award in the process, setting yet another record for the former Michigan Wolverine and NFL legend.

Earlier this week, a video surfaced of Brady in the NFL on Fox broadcast booth sharing his initial thoughts on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy during Brady’s time with the Bucs. Brady admitted he spent the game trying to figure out how Purdy was “carving up” Tampa Bay’s defense, questioning whether his team’s defense was simply that bad.

“I was playing for the Bucs, and we thought, ‘Great, we get to face Purdy after (Rams quarterback) Jimmy Garoppolo went down.’ We thought, ‘Okay, Mr. Irrelevant is in,’ and I’m on the sideline wondering, ‘How is this guy carving us up? Is our defense really this bad?’ And it turns out, Brock is just that good,” Brady recalled in a clip shared on social media.

Looking ahead to Thursday Night Football, the 49ers (2-3) and Seahawks (3-2) will feature a battle between the NFL’s top-ranked passers. San Francisco’s Brock Purdy, who’s thrown for 1,374 yards this season, will go head-to-head with Seattle’s Geno Smith, who’s passed for 1,466 yards. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET in Seattle.
