After playing a pivotal role in supporting Tadej Pogačar’s victory at Il Lombardia, Pavel Sivakov has shifted his focus to the upcoming Tour of Guangxi. Sivakov, who was instrumental in Pogačar’s successful campaign in the final Monument of the 2024 season, is now looking to finish his own season on a high note in the Chinese stage race.
Sivakov’s efforts at Il Lombardia did not go unnoticed, as he helped Pogačar control the race’s key moments, neutralizing attacks and setting a relentless pace in the final stages. His teamwork and tactical acumen were essential in setting up Pogačar for the decisive move that earned the Slovenian his third consecutive Il Lombardia win. Reflecting on that performance, Sivakov expressed pride in contributing to Pogačar’s success but emphasized that he’s now focused on his next challenge.
“The team worked perfectly together at Lombardia, and I’m happy with how we executed our plan,” Sivakov said. “But now, my focus is on Guangxi. It’s the final race of the season, and I want to finish strong.”
The Tour of Guangxi offers a different type of challenge, with a mix of flat stages and punchy climbs, suiting riders like Sivakov who excel in hilly terrain. The six-stage race, which marks the conclusion of the WorldTour season, presents an opportunity for Sivakov to target a strong individual result after a season spent largely in a support role for team leaders like Pogačar.
“I’m feeling good after Lombardia, and I’m motivated to give it my all in Guangxi,” Sivakov added. “It’s been a long season, but I’m ready to give one last push before some well-earned rest.”
With his versatility and form, Sivakov will be one to watch as he competes in the final WorldTour event of the year.
