Eli Tomac, one of motocross’s most accomplished riders, recently opened up about life after the 2025 full season, offering insight into his thoughts on retirement and the mental toll of the sport. “We all stop in this sport because we’re mentally fried, not physically fried,” Tomac stated in a candid interview, shedding light on the pressures and challenges faced by top athletes in high-performance sports.
Tomac, who has consistently performed at the top level for years, explained that while physical conditioning is crucial, it’s the mental grind that eventually pushes riders to step away. “Physically, I feel great. I think we all keep in top shape because that’s what we’ve trained for our whole lives. But mentally, it wears on you. The constant travel, the pressure of performing every weekend, and the mental focus it takes to stay sharp race after race—it’s exhausting,” he said.
As Tomac approaches the latter stages of his career, he’s been reflecting on what comes next. While he remains focused on delivering strong performances in 2024 and 2025, he acknowledges that thoughts of retirement have crossed his mind. “It’s hard to imagine not racing, but at some point, you have to step back and think about life beyond the track. I love what I do, but I know there will come a time when I’m ready to slow down and enjoy the other parts of life.”
For now, though, Tomac is committed to finishing his career on a high note. “I want to go out on my terms, still feeling competitive and strong. I’m not done yet, but when the time comes, I’ll know.” Fans can expect to see Tomac give everything he has until that day arrives.
