Deegan, who is known for his raw talent and aggressive riding style, has shown immense potential on the track. However, he acknowledged that training with Tomac has elevated his approach to racing in ways he hadn’t expected. “There’s so much more to racing than just going fast,” Deegan explained. “Eli has taught me how to break down my technique, manage my energy, and stay calm under pressure. He’s been at the top for so long, so he knows what it takes not just to win races, but to stay consistent throughout the season.”
For Deegan, the experience of training with Tomac has also been eye-opening in terms of understanding the mental and physical preparation required at the elite level. “Eli’s attention to detail is unreal,” Deegan said. “He’s always focused on the little things—whether it’s the way he approaches a section of the track or how he manages his bike setup. I’ve learned that those small adjustments can make a huge difference over the course of a race.”
The 2024 MXoN was a pivotal moment for both Deegan and Tomac, and Deegan noted that training together after the event helped him digest the lessons from that intense competition. “Coming off a big race like MXoN, you see where you need to improve, and having Eli there to guide me through that process was huge,” Deegan said. “He’s been through it all, and he knows how to bounce back and keep moving forward, which is something I’m really trying to absorb.”
Looking ahead, Deegan is optimistic about how the lessons from Tomac will shape his future. “Eli has shown me what it takes to be the best, not just in terms of skill but also in terms of mindset,” he said. “It’s about being smart, being patient, and making the right decisions when it counts. I’m incredibly lucky to have him as a mentor.”
As Deegan continues to rise in the ranks of motocross, he is eager to put everything he has learned from Tomac into practice, aiming for greater success in the seasons to come. The mentorship has already made a significant impact on his development, and with Tomac’s guidance, Deegan is well on his way to carving out his own legacy in the sport.
