Tadej Pogacar isn’t the only one targeting Milano – Sanremo in 2025, as Magnus Cort Nielsen reveals big ambitions: “I can get involved in the big one-day races”
Cort’s announcement comes as he recognizes the unique challenge that races like Milano-Sanremo represent. The race, with its 294 km course and a challenging mix of flat stretches, hilly climbs, and the famous Cipressa and Poggio ascents, has long been a key goal for top riders. While Tadej Pogačar has emerged as one of the primary favorites for 2025, Cort believes that his experience and evolving skillset give him a strong chance to compete in such prestigious events.
In an interview, Cort explained, “I’ve always believed in my abilities to take on the big one-day races, and now I feel more ready than ever to prove myself at Milano-Sanremo.” He has shown his adaptability in different race formats, having earned notable victories in the Tour de France, and he feels confident that his form and preparation will suit the demands of these races.
Cort’s move toward one-day classics is part of a broader trend where riders are diversifying their focus beyond the stage-race calendar. While many top sprinters focus on events like the Giro d’Italia or the Vuelta a España, Cort is determined to challenge himself in the high-profile one-day contests, which require a unique mix of endurance, tactics, and explosiveness.
Having already performed strongly in several spring classics, Cort’s ambition to challenge in Milan-San Remo is seen as a natural progression for the rider. With his focus intensifying on the upcoming seasons, he hopes to join the ranks of the select few who have conquered the most coveted one-day race in cycling. For now, Magnus Cort Nielsen is ready to build upon his past success and test his limits in the pursuit of Milano-Sanremo glory in 2025.
