Eli Tomac, known for pushing the limits of motocross, has spoken about one of his most thrilling and nerve-wracking feats—his biggest quad jump, which stretched an impressive distance of around 140 feet. Reflecting on the experience, Tomac recalled the moment, saying, “It was about 140 feet, my dad stepped it off, and he said it was 147, so maybe plus or minus five feet. So, he confirmed it was huge.”
Tomac’s father, John Tomac, a former professional mountain biker, has always been closely involved in Eli’s career, and his input during moments like these has been invaluable. Eli noted that having his dad measure the jump added a level of reassurance and precision to the already risky endeavor. “My dad’s been around motorsports for so long, so when he stepped off that jump, I knew it wasn’t just a wild guess—he knew exactly what he was looking at,” Eli said.
The quad jump itself was a testament to Tomac’s willingness to push the boundaries of motocross. He described the intense focus and preparation that goes into making such a massive leap. “You have to be totally dialed in, mentally and physically. You can’t hesitate at all because if you do, you’re in trouble. It’s all about full commitment and making sure you’ve got the speed and confidence to stick the landing,” he explained.
The exhilaration of successfully clearing the jump was one of the most unforgettable moments of his career. “There’s nothing quite like flying through the air at that height and distance. When you hit the landing perfectly, it’s the best feeling. But you definitely have to respect the danger, because things can go wrong fast,” Tomac added.
This quad jump has become part of the legend surrounding Tomac’s career, showcasing his fearlessness and skill as one of the top motocross riders of all time.
