Brock Purdy shows his regret and concern for the 49ers after Christian McCaffrey’s injury

Just when it seemed that San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was starting to find his rhythm, in a moment of offensive urgency for the team, the three-time First-Team All-Pro suffered a serious knee injury that ended his season and virtually doomed his team to elimination following Sunday’s loss at Buffalo.

After the game, Niners coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the severity of the injury: “Christian McCaffrey suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury that could be season-ending”.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy could not deny his heartbreak at the injury to his teammate, as he was the offensive engine of the team and his presence immediately improved the team’s performance

“We all saw what he was doing, and he was on fire,” Purdy said after the game. “He looked great. Hitting the gaps hard, bouncing off opponents and making some really explosive plays, and that’s huge. … He’s one of the best running backs in the league and you lose him like that. I think it takes away a little bit the way we do some things within the offense. It’s a shame.”

49ers’ terrible visit to Buffalo

But the news of McCaffrey was not the only negative for San Francisco, as they also lost McCaffrey’s backup, Jordan Mason, who was also placed on injured reserve

For this weekend’s game against the Chicago Bears, the starter for the San Francisco 49ers will be rookie Isaac Guerrendo, with practice squad running back Patrick Taylor Jr. as backup, although the team is expected to add another running back.
