COMMANDERS ON HIGH ALERT: Cleveland Browns Demand 1st Round Draft Picks in 2024 and 2026 for Myles Garrett, Washington Weighs Options…..
The Washington Commanders are in a high-stakes dilemma as they consider a blockbuster trade for Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett. The Browns, reportedly open to negotiations, have set a steep price—first-round draft picks in 2024 and 2026. With Washington’s front office aggressively exploring ways to revamp their defense, the question now is whether they are willing to part with such significant draft capital.
Garrett, a four-time Pro Bowler and one of the most dominant edge rushers in the NFL, would be a game-changing addition to Washington’s defense. The 28-year-old finished the 2023 season with 14 sacks and remains one of the most feared defenders in the league. His ability to pressure quarterbacks and disrupt offensive game plans would provide an instant boost to a Commanders unit that struggled in recent years.
However, Washington’s decision-makers must weigh the cost. Trading two first-round picks would limit their ability to build through the draft, a strategy often favored by new head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters. The Commanders, who currently hold a premium pick in the 2024 draft, could use that selection on a franchise quarterback or a young defensive cornerstone rather than trading it away.
Additionally, Garrett carries a hefty contract. With three years remaining on his $125 million extension, Washington must assess the financial impact of absorbing such a deal while maintaining flexibility to sign other key players.
For Cleveland, moving Garrett would be a shocking decision, but it could signal a shift toward accumulating assets for a future rebuild or addressing other roster needs. While the Browns remain competitive, their offensive struggles and salary cap considerations could push them to explore high-value trade opportunities.
As trade discussions heat up, the Commanders are under pressure to decide whether securing an elite pass rusher is worth mortgaging part of their future. If Washington pulls the trigger, it could reshape their defense overnight—but at a steep price.
