“December will be a long month’ – Remco Evenepoel faces a long road to recovery after car door collision…
Belgian cycling star Remco Evenepoel is facing a lengthy recovery process after a car door collision that has sidelined him from competition. The incident occurred while Evenepoel was training in Spain, causing him significant injuries. While the exact details of the crash have not been disclosed, the consequences are serious enough to prevent the 2023 Vuelta a España winner from participating in any upcoming races.
Evenepoel’s team, Soudal-Quick-Step, confirmed that he sustained injuries to his hip and knee, which will require a period of rest and rehabilitation. The collision occurred when a car door was opened into the path of the rider, causing him to crash unexpectedly. Although he was initially able to continue training after the accident, the pain from the injuries became too much, prompting a medical evaluation.
The team has stated that Evenepoel will focus on his recovery over the coming weeks, which means he will miss several important races scheduled for December. The Belgian rider’s rehabilitation will include physiotherapy and medical treatments aimed at ensuring he is fit for the start of the 2024 season. The injury has raised concerns about his readiness for major events in the upcoming year, especially with the Tour de France being one of his main objectives.
Evenepoel himself acknowledged the frustration of the situation, commenting, “December will be a long month,” highlighting the uncertainty surrounding his recovery. His condition will be closely monitored by the medical staff, and updates will be provided as he progresses.
The collision marks yet another setback for Evenepoel, who has already overcome significant challenges in his career, including a serious crash at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Despite this, the 24-year-old has consistently bounced back stronger, and fans remain hopeful that he will fully recover in time for the 2024 season.
