“I feel like I did at the start of 2022 and ’23.” said Eli Tomac ominously in conversation with Donn Maeda as the new WSX champ looks to reclaim the AMA supercross crown he was won twice before and came so close in 2022 until his achilles tendon ruptured at his home round in Denver just when it looked like he had the title on lock.
On his age, now 32, Tomac said: “I know back when I was very green, 17 years old, and you look at guys and they are 30 years old, you are like, ‘wow, that guy is old,’ but once you get here it’s like, ‘this is prime time.’ You have all this knowledge now and experience, I feel like it’s the time to shine.”
On his competition, Eli Tomac isn’t afraid to say Jett Lawrence is his target. “Jett is obviously the biggest target, he is the target everyone is gunning for – got to beat Jett. It is just a toss up between everyone else and you just don’t know until you go racing. Cooper is super strong, you have Chase, you have Hunter, Jason, Kenny.”
Tomac looked great in WSX, his starts were generally good and his speed was always brilliant, he looked back to his best not just there but also his impressive ride at MXoN.
Beast mode might just have some for defending champ, Jett Lawrence!
