Eli Tomac speaks Out of Action After Breaking Fibula at Tampa Supercross
Eli Tomac, the reigning Monster Energy AMA Supercross champion, has been sidelined due to a broken fibula sustained during the qualifying session at Round 5 in Tampa, Florida. Initially believed to be an ankle sprain and bruised calf, further scans revealed the fracture after two days of persistent pain. Despite the injury, Tomac demonstrated remarkable determination by competing in both his heat race and the main event, securing valuable championship points.
Reflecting on the incident, Tomac stated, “After two days of pain not improving, I got additional scans on my leg, and I do have a broken fibula. This is such a bummer as I’ve never felt better on the motorcycle in Supercross and getting a win at San Diego was great.” He is currently focusing on recovery and has not provided a specific timeline for his return, emphasizing his commitment to come back as soon as possible.
Rich Simmons, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager, expressed his admiration for Tomac’s resilience: “We’re all really bummed for Eli. He has been riding so great and was right there in the hunt for this championship. Also, I have to say it was already impressive for him to go out and race the heat race and the main event Saturday night to score some points for the championship, but knowing what we know now, it speaks volumes about Eli’s grit and determination. We look forward to having him come back stronger.”
This injury comes during a season where Tomac had been performing exceptionally well, notably securing a victory at Round 2 in San Diego. His absence will undoubtedly impact the championship dynamics, but his team and fans remain hopeful for a swift and full recovery.
As Tomac embarks on his recovery journey, the Supercross community rallies behind him, anticipating his return to the track. His determination and resilience continue to inspire, underscoring the physical and mental challenges athletes face in high-intensity sports like Supercross.
