Erin Everly: “When I first met Axl Rose, I’ll be honest—I wasn’t sure about him. He wasn’t exactly my type. At that time, I was focused on my own life and career, and I didn’t really think much about relationships. Axl, on the other hand, had this effortless charm about him. He was outgoing, funny, and definitely had that Rock Band superman vibe. But, I wasn’t sure how to take all that energy. It felt overwhelming at first, like trying to catch lightning in a bottle.
He had this unpredictability—one moment he’d be incredibly sweet, bringing me flowers or writing lyrics inspired by something I said, and the next he’d be closed off, distant, caught in his own world. I learned quickly that he was a complicated person. But maybe that’s what drew me in. There was a vulnerability under all the bravado. A part of him that craved love and acceptance, but didn’t quite know how to ask for it.
We had our ups and downs, like any couple in the spotlight. The media always made it more dramatic than it really was, but we did have intense moments. Passionate highs and lows. Being with someone like Axl meant living life in extremes—there wasn’t much middle ground. But in the quieter times, when it was just the two of us, I saw a different side of him. The side that would laugh at silly jokes or sing to me in the middle of the night.
People always ask why I stayed with him as long as I did. And the truth is, there was real love there. Messy, complicated, imperfect love—but real. It taught me a lot about myself and what I wanted out of life. I don’t regret it. Not a single part. Because in the end, every experience shapes who you become. And that chapter of my life, as wild as it was, helped me grow in ways I never expected.”
