“EVERYBODY WANTED TO STOP… THERE WERE TEARS IN THE EYES” – TADEJ POGACAR EXPLAINS MID-RACE CANCELLATION OF TRE VALLI VARESINE….

Tadej Pogačar recently opened up about the emotional and unprecedented mid-race cancellation of the 2024 Tre Valli Varesine, shedding light on a moment that left the peloton in shock. As heavy rain and unsafe road conditions plagued the race, the decision was made to halt the event before it reached its conclusion. Pogačar, one of the sport’s top riders and a favorite in the race, described the surreal atmosphere that unfolded as the news spread through the peloton.

“Everybody wanted to stop… there were tears in the eyes,” Pogačar said, recalling the intensity of the situation. “It was a tough decision, but it was the right one. The conditions were too dangerous.” The heavy downpour created slick roads and treacherous descents, making it nearly impossible for riders to maintain control. Several riders had already fallen victim to crashes earlier in the race, and as the weather worsened, the organizers made the call to prioritize safety.

Pogačar noted that the decision to stop was met with a mix of relief and disappointment among the riders. “We all want to race, but there are times when it’s just not worth the risk. When you’re in the middle of a storm like that, you realize how dangerous it can be. It was emotional because we train so hard for these moments, but safety comes first.”

Despite the abrupt end, Pogačar remained positive about the experience, expressing gratitude for the solidarity among the riders and organizers. “At the end of the day, we’re all human. I think everyone understood why the race had to stop. It’s part of the sport. We’ll be back next year, ready to race again.”

The cancellation of Tre Valli Varesine serves as a reminder that even in elite-level cycling, safety and well-being must always come first.
