Jared Goff’s Classy Message to Brock Purdy After Lions’ Loss to 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers, led by quarterback Brock Purdy, staged a comeback victory against the Detroit Lions and Jared Goff in the NFC Championship on Sunday. Despite Goff being the 2016 No. 1 draft pick and Purdy the “Mr. Irrelevant” of the 2023 draft, the mutual respect between these playoff quarterbacks was evident after the game.

In a post-game video by NFL Films, a brief yet unforgettable exchange unfolded between the two quarterbacks.

“What a good baller, man,” Goff said to Purdy. “Love what you stand for. Good luck.”

“Love everything you stand for.” Goff also tweeted on his X account regarding Purdy

The Lions’ starting quarterback probably meant Purdy’s unexpected journey to becoming the 49ers’ starting QB. Starting as the third-string QB in his rookie season, he ended up leading the team to the NFC championship. Now, as the regular starter, he guided them to the Super Bowl this year.

Goff has firsthand experience playing in a Super Bowl early in his career, leading the Los Angeles Rams to Super Bowl LIII during the 2018–19 season. The 49ers will go up against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p.m. ET.

It’s cool to see respect between first and last picks in the draft. It also cool that “Mr. Irrelevant” has finally become so relevant that everyone is gradually seeing his potentials.
