Jett Lawrence, the rising motocross sensation, recently shared his thoughts on his friendship with veteran rider Eli Tomac. Despite their intense rivalry on the track, Lawrence spoke warmly about the camaraderie that has developed between the two. In an interview, Lawrence highlighted how, despite the fierce competition, Tomac remains a “very great guy” and a mentor figure off the track.
Lawrence explained that while the competition on race day is all business, their relationship outside of the track is built on mutual respect. He shared, “Off the track, we have a lot of respect for each other. Eli is one of those guys who is extremely focused when he’s racing, but as soon as we’re off the bike, he’s super chill and easy to talk to. It’s great to have someone like him around because he’s done so much for the sport, and you can learn a lot from him.”
The young rider emphasized how their friendship has grown as they have spent more time together, particularly during off-season events and training. Lawrence admires Tomac’s professionalism, stating, “What you see with Eli is this fierce competitor, but when you get to know him, you realize he’s very humble and always willing to help. He doesn’t let the pressure or fame get to his head, and that’s something I really look up to.”
The dynamic between the two riders shows that while their rivalry on the track is as intense as ever, it doesn’t hinder their off-track relationship. Lawrence added, “We might push each other to the limit on race day, but off the track, we share laughs and experiences. It’s refreshing to be able to separate the sport from everyday life and appreciate each other as individuals.”
As Lawrence continues to rise through the motocross ranks, this friendship with Tomac shows that the sport can foster not just rivalries, but meaningful bonds that transcend competition.
