Fulham manager shares his assessment of the 4-3 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

Marco Silva acknowledged his inability to make a Fulham substitution to disrupt the energized Anfield crowd before Liverpool’s late winning goal. The Reds clinched a thrilling 4-3 victory over the London team, leading twice in the first half through a Bernd Leno own goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick and a remarkable strike by Alexis Mac Allister. However, Fulham equalized through goals from Harry Wilson and Kenny Tete.

After the break, Jurgen Klopp’s team missed three excellent opportunities, and Fulham capitalized on those errors. Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s header put the visitors ahead with 10 minutes left. Despite this, Liverpool was determined not to concede their flawless home record this season. Wataru Endo, a substitute, scored the equalizer, and in the 88th minute, Alexander-Arnold scored the winning goal, leading to jubilant celebrations.

A tragic incident occurred as a homeless man reportedly froze to death while sleeping in a car amidst -10°C temperatures. In Liverpool news, Fulham boss Marco Silva confessed his inability to make a crucial substitution to halt the Anfield crowd before Liverpool’s late winning goal. Despite an intense game where Liverpool secured a 4-3 victory, Silva felt his team deserved more from the match. He praised Fulham’s performance but acknowledged the difficulty in countering Liverpool’s exceptional goals.

“They didn’t generate many opportunities. Besides their two first-half goals, they maintained control within themselves. Our plan aimed to restrict space behind our defensive line, and they struggled to create significant chances. I can’t recall a major opportunity they had in the initial half.

“The second half followed a similar pattern. They had a notable counter-attacking chance through Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez’s effort hitting the crossbar, but beyond that, little else. Anticipating a more open game after the substitutions, we executed well and scored our third goal impressively. However, games against these kinds of opponents and their spirited crowd are never entirely in control; they can turn it around suddenly.

“We were managing the game, but one long ball, their successful second ball, and another splendid finish from outside the box changed the momentum. At that moment, I wanted to swiftly make a substitution to regain control and calm the crowd, but our mistake led to their fourth goal. The players didn’t deserve the outcome; there were many positives, and we should be proud of their efforts.”
