Netflix to Adapt Alice Cooper’s ‘Golf Monster’ into Music Documentary
Netflix is officially developing a documentary based on Golf Monster: A Rock ’n’ Roller’s 12 Steps to Becoming a Golf Addict, the memoir of legendary shock-rocker Alice Cooper. The project marks the latest addition to the streaming giant’s growing slate of music-focused documentaries and will explore the lesser-known side of Cooper’s life—his deep love for golf and how the sport helped him conquer personal demons.
Originally published in 2007, Golf Monster traces the journey of Vincent Damon Furnier—better known by his stage name Alice Cooper—from hard-rock excess and alcoholism to a surprising personal redemption found on the golf course. The book blends autobiographical accounts with humorous reflections on the rock lifestyle and genuine golf insights, portraying Cooper as a man who found balance through an unlikely passion.
While the title suggests a sports-centric narrative, the upcoming documentary will reportedly provide a broader portrait of Cooper’s dual identity: a theatrical icon of hard rock and a disciplined, early-rising golf enthusiast. Interviews with friends, bandmates, and fellow musicians are expected to accompany archival footage, performance clips, and scenes shot on various golf courses frequented by Cooper.
Music documentaries have become a cornerstone of Netflix’s content strategy, with recent hits such as Miss Americana (Taylor Swift), Homecoming (Beyoncé), and Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now receiving both critical and audience acclaim. By focusing on Cooper, Netflix is taking a step into classic rock territory, promising to attract both longtime fans and curious newcomers.
Production details, including the director and release date, are yet to be officially confirmed. However, industry insiders suggest that the project is already in development and may premiere as early as 2026.
With his signature black eyeliner, macabre stage antics, and enduring catalog of hits like “School’s Out” and “Poison,” Alice Cooper redefined the boundaries of rock performance. Now, in a surprising twist, Golf Monster will reveal the quieter, more introspective dimensions of the man behind the mask—one swing at a time.
