Netflix to Release Documentary on Alissa White-Gluz, Arch Enemy Frontwoman
Netflix is set to debut a new documentary centered on Alissa White-Gluz, the powerful voice and commanding presence behind the Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy. The streaming giant announced the project earlier this week, generating buzz among metal fans and documentary lovers alike.
The documentary, which is slated for release later this year, promises an in-depth look into White-Gluz’s life, career, and activism. Known for her growling vocals and dynamic stage performances, White-Gluz has become one of the most prominent figures in modern metal, breaking barriers as a female lead in a male-dominated genre. Her journey from the underground punk scene in Canada to leading one of the most influential metal bands in the world is expected to take center stage in the film.
According to sources close to the production, the documentary will feature rare behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with bandmates and fellow musicians, and a look into her personal convictions, including her advocacy for animal rights, veganism, and environmental issues. It will also chronicle her evolution from her early days with The Agonist to her pivotal role in Arch Enemy, where she replaced Angela Gossow in 2014 and helped take the band to new commercial heights.
Netflix’s move to highlight White-Gluz underscores its ongoing investment in music-related content, following recent successes like Miss Americana (Taylor Swift), Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, and Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop. With this new project, the platform continues to expand its documentary portfolio by spotlighting artists from diverse musical backgrounds.
Neither Netflix nor White-Gluz have revealed the documentary’s official title or release date, but anticipation is already high. Fans can expect a film that not only explores the intensity of life on tour and the challenges of being a woman in extreme metal but also delves into the personal beliefs and resilience that define White-Gluz beyond the stage.
More information is expected in the coming weeks as Netflix prepares to unveil a full trailer and schedule for release.
