Netflix to Release New Documentary Celebrating Olivia Newton-John’s Life and Legacy
Netflix has announced plans to release a new feature-length documentary chronicling the life, music, and enduring legacy of Dame Olivia Newton-John. The upcoming film will offer an intimate portrait of the beloved singer and actress, whose career spanned decades and whose influence continues to resonate across generations of fans.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker R.J. Cutler—best known for acclaimed music documentaries such as Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry—the project aims to delve deeply into Newton-John’s personal and professional journey. Through exclusive access to her music catalog, never-before-seen footage, and personal archives, the film will explore her early career in the 1970s, her rise to global stardom in Grease, and her later work as a wellness advocate and cancer research campaigner.
The documentary is being produced by Cutler’s company, This Machine, in collaboration with Primary Wave Music, which manages part of Newton-John’s music and image rights. Together, they promise to deliver a film that honors her artistry, grace, and resilience.
Olivia Newton-John, who passed away in 2022 after a long and public battle with breast cancer, left behind an indelible mark not only on the music and film industries but also in humanitarian and environmental causes. Her iconic songs like “Physical,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” and “Magic” remain staples in pop culture history.
While Netflix has not yet confirmed an official release date, the project is already generating significant anticipation among fans and music lovers. This marks another significant step in the streaming platform’s growing portfolio of music-centered documentaries, which continue to attract audiences with their compelling storytelling and star power.
With this film, Netflix and the creative team hope to celebrate Newton-John’s timeless charm and artistic impact—ensuring her story continues to inspire long into the future.
