New York Giants Score Big in Free Agency: 2x Super Bowl Champion and $72.75 Million Veteran Join the Team!

New York Giants fans had lots to cheer about during the first half as they jumped out to a 24-0 lead, Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Daniel Jones remains the top quarterback option for the New York Giants. But as far as the backup QB job for the team is concerned, the situation isn’t all that clear.

Sure, the New York Giants will still likely have Tommy DeVito, but Tyrod Taylor is gone. In other words, New York needs to add another QB. Enter Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who is expected to hit the free-agent market soon. Vic Tafur of The Athletic raised the idea of the New York Giants potentially luring Garoppolo to East Rutherford in the offseason.

Jimmy Garoppolo As A QB Option For The New York Giants?

Garoppolo’s time with the Las Vegas Raiders hasn’t been reflecting the massive three-year contract he signed with the team back in 2023 which was worth $72.75 million. He was even benched for rookie Aidan O’Connell toward the end of the 2023 campaign. On top of that, Garoppolo will miss the first two games of the 2024 NFL season because of suspension after it was found out that he violated the NFL’s drug policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

It is hard to imagine at the moment Garoppolo being a QB1 again in the league. Getting a backup job is looking like the more realistic career goal for him in the league. That being said, the window is still open for him to be a regular starter again, given the right situation. If he lands with the New York Giants, he can potentially compete for the QB1 role against Jones. At the very least, he can provide an experienced presence in the team’s QB room.
