
Novak Djokovic makes big statement of intent ahead of impending return from injury at Qatar
Djokovic, currently ranked seventh globally, has been recovering from a hamstring injury that forced him to retire during the Australian Open semifinal against Alexander Zverev last month. He has since received medical clearance to resume training. Expressing his readiness, Djokovic stated, “There is no more rupture in the muscle, the injury is almost 100% healed… I have the green light from the medical team to be able to train, to be able to prepare.”
The Serbian star is on the cusp of a historic milestone, aiming to secure his 100th career singles title in Doha. Achieving this feat would make him only the third man in the professional era to reach such a landmark, joining the ranks of Jimmy Connors (109 titles) and Roger Federer (103 titles). Reflecting on this pursuit, Djokovic remarked, “I hope that the 100th trophy can come already in Doha, I’ve been chasing it for a long time… but about that—it will come when it’s supposed to … .”

His participation this year not only signifies his return to form but also adds significant value to the event. Tournament Director Karim Alami expressed enthusiasm about Djokovic’s return, stating, “Novak is a phenomenal athlete who always captivates with his skill and competitiveness.”
