In a surprising turn at the Qatar Open, Novak Djokovic faced a first-round defeat against Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, with a scoreline of 7-6(4), 6-2. This match marked Djokovic’s return to singles play following his retirement from the Australian Open semi-finals due to a hamstring injury. Despite the loss, Djokovic emphasized that his performance was not hindered by physical discomfort. He acknowledged Berrettini’s superior play, stating, “I didn’t have any pain or discomfort… I was outplayed by just a better player today.”
