Pavel Sivakov, a talented rider known for his strength in stage races, has expressed his satisfaction with his new role as a domestique for UAE Team Emirates and Tadej Pogačar. In a recent interview, Sivakov opened up about the shift in his career from being a team leader to supporting one of the world’s top riders, and he is more than content with this change.
“It’s better to be a teammate of riders like Tadej Pogačar than to fight against them,” Sivakov said with a smile. He explained that having witnessed Pogačar’s dominance firsthand, it made perfect sense to align himself with such a rider, rather than attempting to challenge him head-on. “Pogačar is on another level in many ways, and being part of a team that supports him allows me to contribute to something bigger. I’ve learned that winning as a team is just as rewarding as personal victories.”
Sivakov, who joined UAE Team Emirates ahead of the 2024 season, has already shown his worth in key races, playing a critical role in helping Pogačar maintain his position at the front of the peloton. As a domestique, his responsibilities include pacing Pogačar in the mountains, protecting him on flat stages, and ensuring he has everything he needs to make decisive attacks.
Sivakov emphasized that the transition to a domestique role has not diminished his ambitions but has instead allowed him to take part in bigger victories. “Riding for Pogačar gives me a lot of satisfaction. He’s a humble guy, and we all work together with one goal in mind—to win. Being a key piece of that puzzle is something I’m proud of.”
By embracing this new role, Sivakov is enjoying a fresh chapter in his career, and his contributions to UAE Team Emirates make him a crucial part of Pogačar’s ongoing success.
