How PFF graded Purdy, 49ers in epic collapse vs. Rams
The San Francisco 49ers’ 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sunday was marked by critical mistakes in all three phases of the game. Despite the team’s collapse, a few standout performances kept them competitive until the final seconds.
Quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Jauan Jennings led the way, earning the highest grades on Pro Football Focus (PFF) for the game. Jennings had a breakout performance, emerging as Purdy’s top target. The wideout hauled in 11 of 12 targets for 175 yards and three touchdowns, making several contested catches along the way.
Purdy also delivered a strong outing, completing 22 of 30 passes for 292 yards, three touchdowns, and a 137.1 passer rating. Despite being pressured on nearly half of his dropbacks (47.7%), Purdy excelled under duress, achieving a 143.4 passer rating when facing pressure.
However, San Francisco’s defense faltered at key moments, allowing Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford to complete 16 of 25 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers also struggled to contain Rams running back Kyren Williams, who racked up 116 total yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Tutu Atwell added 93 yards on four receptions.
Here are some of the 49ers’ key PFF grades from the game:
Offense:
– QB Brock Purdy – 91.1 (2nd-highest career grade)
– WR Jauan Jennings – 90.5 (Career day with 175 yards, 3 TDs)
– WR Brandon Aiyuk – 63.1 (5 receptions for 48 yards, but plagued by drops)
– WR Ronnie Bell – 39.8 (Crucial fourth-quarter drop)
Offensive Line:
– LT Trent Williams – 72.3 (Allowed 3 hurries)
– LG Aaron Banks – 76.5 (2 hurries allowed)
– RT Colton McKivitz – 42.8 (1 sack, 3 hurries allowed)
**Defense:**
– DT Maliek Collins – 83.5 (1 sack, 4 hurries)
– DT Javon Hargrave – 80.9 (1 sack, 4 hurries)
– EDGE Nick Bosa – 70.7 (Played all 58 snaps, 1 hit, 3 hurries)
In coverage, safety Ji’Ayir Brown posted the highest grade with a 75.9, allowing only one catch for eight yards. On the other hand, cornerbacks Charvarius Ward (36.7) and Isaac Yiadom (58.6) struggled, allowing a combined eight catches for 128 yards.
Despite strong individual performances, the 49ers’ mistakes, particularly in the secondary and on key offensive possessions, led to their eventual downfall in a game they led until the final moments.
