Nottingham Forest’s bid for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been turned down as the transfer deadline approaches, as reported by The Athletic. Details about Forest’s pursuit of Johnstone are being closely examined in the football community.
Nottingham Forest faced rejection on their bid for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, signaling an intensified pursuit for a new goalkeeper before the transfer window shuts. Recent reports suggested interest in Peter Gulacsi and linked Kasper Schmeichel to the club. The Athletic reveals Forest’s move for Johnstone, who has lost his starting spot to Dean Henderson.
Forest submitted a loan offer for the goalkeeper, with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. Unfortunately, Crystal Palace turned down the bid, indicating the likelihood that the player will stay at Selhurst Park beyond the current transfer window.
Forest made an offer to take the goalkeeper on loan until the end of the season and then hold an obligation to buy him in the summer.
However, the bid was rejected by the Eagles and it’s thought that he will now remain at Selhurst Park beyond this month.
WHO IS THIS GOALKEEPER?
Sam Johnstone, earning £43,000 per week, boasts Premier League experience with stints at West Brom, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace. His journey includes appearances for Doncaster, Preston, Scunthorpe, and Walsall. Starting the season as Crystal Palace’s primary goalkeeper, he stepped in for the injured Henderson, who concluded the previous season at Forest due to a thigh injury. Despite his own injury setback, Johnstone made a return to the bench in the recent 5-0 defeat against Crystal Palace.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has made 30 appearances for Crystal Palace, currently serving as the second choice for the remainder of the season. Micah Richards praised Johnstone’s outstanding performances during his time with West Brom. The rumor carries an 8/10 rating, expressing disappointment that the potential transfer seems unlikely. Johnstone, an experienced stopper at 30, remains a viable option for Forest. Despite earning four caps for England, it appears Forest’s quest for a goalkeeper continues this month.
