As John Tortorella approaches 66 before the 2024-25 season, questions arise about his tenure amid the Flyers’ rebuild. Despite rumors of a transition to the front office, Tortorella remains resolute in his focus on coaching and uninterested in any other role within the organization.
“Can I ask you a question? Is this a question based on what was thrown out there, as far as a front office job and stuff like that?” Tortorella replied after being quizzed about his future as a coach on Friday. “I am as energized as I’ve ever been. This team here… the organization, I love working here. I’m already thinking about next year. I just spent an hour with (Danny Briere). We just spent a half hour with Patrick Sharp and some of our analytics guys on certain players that we think we can help.
“I am totally in until Danny says, ‘Get the hell out of here’,” Tortorella finished with an affirming nod of his head.
In his sophomore season behind the Flyers’ bench, John Tortorella is already eyeing a third campaign with the team. Despite initial speculation of a potential shift to a front office role, promptly dismissed by TSN’s Darren Dreger, Tortorella himself has stepped forward to quash any lingering doubts. Flyers president Keith Jones has also played his part in dousing the flames of uncertainty, affirming that there have been no discussions regarding a change in Tortorella’s role. Jones highlights Tortorella’s exceptional ability in nurturing young talent and fostering a culture of accountability within the team. Throughout this saga, all parties involved have consistently reiterated their commitment to Tortorella leading the Flyers into the future.
