Tadej Pogačar recently expressed no regrets about missing out on the Olympics, describing his 2024 season as “perfect.” The Slovenian cyclist had one of the most remarkable years of his career, showcasing incredible consistency and resilience in both Grand Tours and other major races. Reflecting on his decision, Pogačar acknowledged that, while the Olympics is a prestigious event, his focus on other goals allowed him to maintain peak performance throughout the season.

For Pogačar, prioritizing the Tour de France, as well as select one-day classics and stage races, paid off. His strategy enabled him to build a season that was both balanced and successful, reaching podiums and securing wins against some of the world’s top cyclists. In particular, his performances at the Tour demonstrated his tactical brilliance and endurance, reinforcing his position as one of the sport’s elite.

He also mentioned the physical and mental toll that the season took, indicating that adding another major competition, like the Olympics, could have hindered his recovery and preparation for key events. By skipping the Olympics, Pogačar was able to maintain a strategic approach, focusing his energy on races that aligned with his long-term ambitions.

Pogačar’s contentment with his choices highlights his maturity and understanding of his own limitations. As he looks ahead, his successful 2024 season is a reminder of his strategic prowess and adaptability – qualities that promise continued success for the young star in seasons to come.
