TADEJ POGACAR TALKS LOMBARDIA AMBITIONS AND EVENEPOEL EXPECTATIONS: “REMCO IS MENTALLY MORE READY FOR THE BIG RACE, THAN FOR THE SMALLER ONES”….

Tadej Pogačar has set his sights on winning the 2024 edition of Il Lombardia, aiming to reclaim his title in the final Monument race of the season. With a strong performance throughout the year, including his battle against Jonas Vingegaard in the Tour de France, Pogačar is eager to finish the season on a high. Known for his ability to dominate in hilly classics, he believes Il Lombardia is the perfect stage to showcase his strengths.

When asked about his main rival, Remco Evenepoel, Pogačar expressed his respect for the Belgian’s mental fortitude, especially in high-profile races. “Remco is mentally more ready for the big race, than for the smaller ones,” Pogačar noted. He emphasized that Evenepoel thrives under pressure, often delivering his best performances in major events. Evenepoel, the 2022 Vuelta a España champion, has proven his mettle in both Grand Tours and one-day races, making him a formidable opponent for Pogačar at Il Lombardia.

Pogačar highlighted Evenepoel’s ability to stay calm and focused, particularly in the biggest races of the season, as a key factor in his success. “Remco always seems to have an extra gear when it really counts,” Pogačar said, acknowledging that matching Evenepoel’s intensity and form will be a challenge.

Despite this, Pogačar remains confident in his preparation and form as he approaches Il Lombardia. “I’m ready for the fight. It will be a tough race, but I’ve been preparing well, and I believe in my chances,” he added, signaling his intent to add another Monument victory to his impressive palmarès.
