Nottingham Forest is reportedly pursuing Southampton striker Carlos Alcaraz as they intensify efforts to secure a new offensive player before the upcoming Thursday transfer deadline. According to AS, Forest has engaged in discussions with the player’s representatives, though no formal offer has been presented to Southampton. The Saints, managed by Russell Martin, are performing strongly this season and are in contention for a prompt comeback to the Premier League.
Consequently, this could pose a challenge for Forest in their quest to secure a new star player before the transfer window closes on Thursday night. Additionally, it is suggested that other football clubs are also expressing interest in Alcaraz leading up to Thursday.
Lyon and Marseille have also expressed their
interest, yet indications suggest that if Alcaraz were to depart Southampton, his inclination would be to join a Premier League club.
Carlos Alcaraz, a young striker hailing from Argentina, made his move to Southampton in January 2023 from Racing Club. Despite his debut season with the Saints resulting in relegation, he demonstrated promise with four goals and two assists. Notably, he scored a goal during a 4-3 defeat to Forest in May, potentially catching attention on that particular night.
Alcaraz has scored four goals and provided three assists in the Championship this season. With three appearances for Argentina’s under-23 team at 21 years old, he appears destined for a promising career. Earlier in the season, Saints winger Ryan Fraser praised Alcaraz as ‘brilliant.’ The rumor is rated 7/10, acknowledging that he hasn’t dominated the Championship, leading to some reservations among Forest fans. However, acquiring Alcaraz could signify a shift in Forest’s recruitment strategy, moving away from spending on aging players. At 21, he presents an opportunity for long-term improvement.
