Update on Dre Greenlaw’s injury

Dre Greenlaw is making strides in his recovery journey. Following his Achilles injury during the second quarter of the 49ers’ Super Bowl LVIII defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs, the standout linebacker underwent a successful surgery on Thursday to fully repair the tear, according to a source cited by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport also mentioned that there’s optimism surrounding Greenlaw’s ability to fully bounce back, although the precise timeline for his return remains uncertain. In the NFL realm, recovery from a torn Achilles usually spans between nine to 12 months before players can hit the field again. However, Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets made waves with his remarkable four-month recovery from a comparable injury sustained in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season.

Greenlaw’s injury sent a ripple effect of concern through both the 49ers and Chiefs’ sidelines during Sunday’s game, as the severity of the injury became apparent. Now, the revered linebacker confronts a substantial journey towards recovery, with expectations of being sidelined for a significant portion of the 2024 season as he works towards full health.
