Wout van Aert, one of the most versatile cyclists in the peloton, has reaffirmed his determination to return stronger after a challenging 2024 season. Despite some setbacks in key races, the Belgian rider remains optimistic, expressing a deep desire to bounce back and reclaim his position as one of the top riders in the world.
In a recent interview, van Aert reflected on the season, acknowledging that it hadn’t gone as planned. “I’ve had my share of disappointments this year,” he admitted, pointing to near-misses in races like the Tour de France, where he was unable to secure a stage win or contend as consistently as he would have liked. Additionally, in the spring classics, which have traditionally been his strength, van Aert found himself outmatched by rivals in crucial moments.
However, these challenges have only strengthened his resolve. “I have a strong will to win, and I know I can come back stronger,” van Aert said confidently. His resilience has been a hallmark of his career, with the Belgian rider known for his ability to compete across different terrains and formats, excelling in sprints, time trials, and even mountainous stages.
Part of van Aert’s renewed focus involves not only physical preparation but also refining his race strategies. “I’ve learned a lot this year, and that’s going to help me plan better for the future,” he explained, signaling that he intends to approach races more tactically, ensuring that he doesn’t expend energy too early or take unnecessary risks.
Jumbo-Visma, his team, will continue to play a critical role in his success. Van Aert highlighted the importance of team dynamics and the support he receives from his teammates, particularly when balancing personal ambitions with his role as a key domestique in Grand Tours, often supporting Jonas Vingegaard.
Looking ahead to 2025, van Aert’s goals are clear. He intends to target the spring classics once again, while also aiming for stage wins in Grand Tours.
